Location awareness in mobile computing
'How your phone knows where you are and where you are going through the power of crowdsourcing
Peter Weng, currently a principal development manager in 'Bing is excited about mobile computing, location awareness, and cloud computing. He graduated from MIT in 2003 and has been at Microsoft ever since working on products like virtual reality experiences, instant messaging, social notifications platforms, and windows phone.
GPS is accurate, but battery intensive and slow to get a position fix. So how is it that your mobile devices know where you are - almost instantaneously? Come learn about the technology behind positioning in mobile devices. We will talk about how probabilistic analysis combined with sensor data and crowdsourcing along with advances in big data infrastructure all come together to efficiently determine your location on your mobile devices.
